But once we actually started planning, we realised choosing the right option wasn’t as straightforward as it looked.
Some options were cheaper.
Some were faster.
Others sounded convenient until we read reviews from travellers who had to drag heavy luggage between multiple pickup points. After comparing everything, we finally chose the option that gave us the best balance of comfort, convenience and value for money.
Looking back, we would make exactly the same choice again.

Why We Chose a Shared Van
Since we were staying near Patong Beach and our hotel in Krabi was in Ao Nang, we wanted something simple.
We didn’t want to:
- Find our own way to the bus station.
- Drag our luggage to a ferry pier.
- Book multiple transfers.
The shared van solved all those problems. The operator picked us up directly from our hotel in Phuket and dropped us near our hotel in Ao Nang. No changing vehicles. No carrying luggage through crowded terminals. No stress. For us, that convenience alone made it worthwhile.
Our Experience
Our pickup was scheduled for the morning, and the driver arrived almost on time. After collecting a few more passengers from nearby hotels, we started the journey towards Krabi. The van was air-conditioned, reasonably comfortable, and had enough luggage space for everyone’s suitcases.
Since there were only a handful of stops, the journey felt much shorter than we expected. One thing we really enjoyed was watching the scenery gradually change. Was the Journey Boring?

- Simply enjoy the beautiful drive through southern Thailand.
Sometimes travelling between destinations becomes a memorable part of the trip itself. This was one of those journeys.
Arrival in Krabi
Around a few hours later, we finally reached Ao Nang. The first thing we noticed was how different it felt from Phuket. Phuket is lively, energetic and always buzzing with activity.
Krabi felt slower. More peaceful. Less crowded. The towering limestone cliffs that surrounded Ao Nang immediately gave us a completely different impression of southern Thailand.
Within an hour of checking into our hotel, we were already walking along Ao Nang Beach watching the sunset. That moment alone made the journey worthwhile.
Would We Choose the Same Option Again?
Absolutely.
Unless you’re specifically travelling by ferry for the scenic sea views, we genuinely think a shared hotel transfer offers the best balance of convenience, comfort and price.
For first-time visitors, it’s the easiest way to travel between Phuket and Krabi without worrying about multiple connections or navigating unfamiliar transport systems.
